The Normandie Hotel
"A tale of true love, the story behind the
Normandie Hotel is romantic enough to give the Horned Dorset a run for its money. Take a look at the hotel's facade and you'll notice it is designed like an ocean liner. Built in 1942, the hotel was the inspiration of Puerto-Rican born engineer Felix Benitez Rexach, who made it for his wife, Lucienne (Moineau) Dhotelle. The couple had met aboard the
SS Normandie, en route from France to New York, and fell in love during the voyage. Years later, when the ship sank, Rexach decided to build a hotel that resembled the Normandie as a monument to his love."
